What Causes Capillaries on the Face to Bust

I often get asked about the cause of busted capillaries on the face. The capillary walls aren’t actually busted, rather they become damaged when they contract and expand too quickly. Through repeated and excessive contraction and expansion, the muscles in the wall can tear and allow blood to seep through. The repeated dilation from hot water/showers, microdermabrasion, spicy foods, alcohol, intense exercise, or genetics can leave these capillaries permanently dilated. Be careful of excessive exfoliation also. Not only can it damage your capillaries, it can cause your skin to overproduce skin cells.
